Your vehicle information should be handled with care.
This policy explains the information CarCause processes during the public beta and the choices available to you.
Information you provide
CarCause can process account information such as your email address, plus vehicle information you choose to enter or save, including year, make, model, configuration, VIN, mileage, symptoms, trouble codes, diagnostic notes, service records, maintenance reminders, optional diagnostic images, and diagnostic quality feedback you choose to provide.
How CarCause uses information
Information is used to identify the vehicle, provide guided diagnostic assistance, save your Garage and history, sync signed-in account data across devices, show relevant public recall information, find nearby repair options when requested, understand feature usage and diagnostic completion, improve reliability and diagnostic quality, and protect the service from misuse.
Service providers and public data sources
CarCause uses Supabase for account authentication, synced account storage, and compact first-party diagnostic analytics, OpenAI to generate diagnostic guidance, Vercel for hosting and basic website analytics, Google Places when you request nearby repair options, and U.S. government vehicle data from NHTSA and FuelEconomy.gov for supported vehicle identification, configuration, and recall features. First-party diagnostic analytics use one compact record per diagnostic session and do not store VINs, email addresses, vehicle make or model, symptom text, diagnostic notes, diagnosis cause text, or other free-text customer content. Information is sent only as needed for the feature you use.
Local device storage
CarCause uses browser storage so the app can remember your Garage, diagnostic work, and app state. When you sign out, account-related local history is cleared from that device to reduce exposure on shared devices. Some disposable public-data caches and basic app preferences may remain.
Account data and deletion
Signed-in Garage, diagnostic, service, and maintenance data is stored in the CarCause account database. You can permanently delete your account from the Account page. Account deletion removes the authentication account and its synced CarCause data. Data already sent to a third-party provider may be retained by that provider according to its own policies and legal obligations.
Security and retention
CarCause uses encrypted HTTPS connections, access controls, row-level database security, and server-side handling for secret API credentials. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Account data is retained while your account exists unless deletion is requested or retention is otherwise required for security, legal, or operational reasons. Compact diagnostic analytics may be retained separately from account data because they do not contain direct account, VIN, vehicle identity, symptom, note, or diagnosis-text fields and are used to measure product reliability and diagnostic quality.
Children and policy changes
CarCause is not intended for children under 13. This policy may be updated as the beta changes. Material updates will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
